Animal ID: 2016-068Dixie (female)

Basenji Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Dixie is a peppy 7-8 year old medium-sized, sweet girl. Although heartworm positive, it does not hold her back from anything. Her heartworm treatment is being paid for by her rescue group (4 Lucky Dogs Pet Rescue, Inc.) and she is available via a foster-to-adopt status, which will be finalized at the end of her treatment. She's very calm in the house and prefers to curl up on something soft, preferably next to you and with her head on your lap, if possible. She is most definitely a shadow and will follow you around the house, but she'll gladly stay on her bed, as long as you don't go out of her sight. Dixie is still learning how to walk ... (Read More)on a leash and loves to go on walks. She also loves squeaky toys and to play ball, however she prefers that you fetch it from her after she gets the ball. She encourages you to chase her to retrieve that ball!! She's also perfectly content playing ball solo, she throws it down from her mouth then pounces on it. She does steal dirty laundry if you leave it on leave on the floor, but just to take it to bed and lay on it. She is no wallflower and Dixie may challenge a resident dog at first as she settles in, but she quickly responds to a firm correction. She is protective of her people and like any good guard dog lets you know when someone is at the door, but always greets people with a wiggle butt. Dixie is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccinations. She is being fostered in the Tampa Bay area with 3 other dogs. Her adoption fee is $100. If you are interested in adopting Dixie please will out an application on our website at 4luckydogs.org. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00468Roscoe (male)

Basenji Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Roscoe is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Roscoe is currently fostered in St. Pete. Roscoe is a sweet young guy, about 30 lbs. We just pulled him from a shelter in the panhandle. He is a happy guy who is fully vetted and ready to go. Seems to do great with kids. Roscoe is fine in a crate with no issues, but does guard an outdoor enclosure like a typical shepherd. Due to a mixup with shelter paperwork we originally listed him as deaf - he is not; he hears fine! Roscoe is looking for a loving forever home.

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-09-00062Mimi (female)

Basenji Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is a heartbreaking choice to even post Mimi for rescue. We love her and she is by far the best of our three dogs with our son, who is 14 months old. She is so good with kids! She is great with adults as well, as long as she approaches you, but she is amazing with children. She wants to chase cats when we are on walks, I've never seen her with a cat. She is NOT good with our other two dogs and has gotten worse and worse. She attacks both, but especially the smaller female. She won't let the larger male lay on the beds near her or go into 'their room.' We rescued her from Benin (West Africa), along with our other two dogs. We ... (Read More)brought them all with us to California and we lived in a small apartment. We walked them three to four times a day and never had an issue. She was the best with our son when we brought him home and continues to be. We then moved from LA to Tampa, we drove across the country with the three dogs and our 3 month old. We have a large yard and the dogs are indoor/outdoor and doing well, we still walk them once a day. Another thing! For four weeks, between leaving our apartment in California and our move to Tampa, we lived with my grandmother and the three dogs stayed with friends, in their garage and yard. They have three children under 6 and the three dogs had so much fun, they had a yard and playmates every day. I would LOVE for Mimi to go to an active family with children. She loves to play, she loves to go on walks, she loves to be loved and pet. This photo is a photo of her when she was younger, I have many photos of her and would be happy to share them with you. I've taken her and the other two to dog parks and they've never gotten in any fights, but she does get excited and chase dogs and act like she's going to nip. Up until this point, shes never attacked another dog, only my first two. (Less)

Basenji Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Vanity is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Vanity is currently fostered in Sarasota. Vanity is a smaller spayed female estimated to be about one year old. We are unsure of her breed mix, but she looks as though she could have some basenji, Shiba Inu, corgi, cattle dog, and/or terrier in her. She is a very sweet, social girl and likes to snuggle but also enjoys chasing a tennis ball. As a recent stray, she is just starting to learn some basic manners but catches on quickly and is very anxious to please her people.

Basenji Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Walter is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Walter is currently fostered in Ocala. We are guessing that Walter is around 6 years old. Maybe a corgi mix? He definitely loves sniffing around the yard. Walter is an adorable little guy. He's happy and sweet once he gets to know you but scared at first. He needs someone patient who can spend a little time each day (even just 5-10 minutes can make a huge difference) doing some basic training with him to help him gain some confidence. Could provide a safe and loving home? Walter will love you unconditionally in return.

Basenji Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Senji is a 2-3 Basenji mix. She is house and crate trained. She walks great on a leash and is not a barker. She loves to run and play and is active. She would make a great addition to a family, especially with kids, or would do great as a jogging partner. She just loves to run. She also loves to cuddle and makes an awesome couch potato. She loves car rides and is always up to going along with you. She is dog friendly but likes to chase kitties so a no kitty home is preferred.

Basenji Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Introducing the lovely, Princess Elsa. She is a 2 yr old carolina/hound mix and weighs about 40 lbs. She's a young, playful but dominant dog who would love a dog playmate. Elsa would definitely want to be the boss. Seems to like kids of all ages and women, sometimes seems startled by men. HATES bikes and skateboards, but can probably get past that. Does well with most dogs after proper introductions. Is not kennel, food or toy aggressive (no space or resource guarding seen at all!) Energetic, so will need lots of exercise every day, either a fenced yard or a running partner. Loves to play fetch outside and with toys inside. Tries to engage ...
