|Rescue Me ID: 16-02-08-00627Donnie (male)|
Meet Donnie! DOB 1/27/2015 Basenji/Shiba Inu Mix Donnie is 20 lb fully grown possibly Basenji or Shiba Inu mix. He came to Safe Haven from Alabama as a stray that was shot with metal BBs. Donnie is currently being fostered in a home with several dogs of all sizes and temperament. He gets along with dominant and submissive dogs. His foster mom is finding out what a sweetheart he is. He is doing well with going potty outside (only 2 accidents so far). Donnie has learned sit and come. He loves to play fetch and chew his toys and bones. He can keep himself entertained by throwing his toys in the air and chasing after them. He also like to push a ball off the furniture and chase after it and bring it back. Donnie still needs work walking on a leash. He does very well in a fenced in yard. He stays very close to his foster mom and will even walk in between her legs when other people are around. Donnie will do best with much older children or no children. He still tries to play with humans by using his teeth. He doesn't bite down and it is very playful, but young children might not understand his playfulness. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 14-06-15-00176Rocky (male)|
Rocky, Right in photo, was rescued with his mother, on the left in the picture, and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. there was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father, but he doesn't look like he has a purebred shepherd father. Rocky is the only one with a curly tail. He is very sweet, with a goofy personality. They came from a terrible situation and Rocky adjusted the fastest to the fact we wouldn't hurt him. All the dogs from this residence are terrified of small children but have adjusted pretty well to teens or adults. He is very shy until he knows someone. He loves attention! He has learned to walk on a leash fairly well, is crate trained. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. Mom has been adopted and they couldn't be happier with her. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption. Brighton IL. Transport option may be available. (Less)

Basenji Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Basenji is a playful, charming, energetic breed. They make excellent family pets but do best with older children. Basenjis can live in an apartment but need lots of daily exercise and long walks. A Basenji likes to chew and should be given toys and attention or it will get into trouble. Basenjis do not do well with cats and other pets beside dogs.
