Rescue Me ID: 14-10-04-00405Matty (male)

Basenji Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

'Matty is 11 months old, 40 lbs, neutered, current on vaccines (due February 2016), heartworm negative and on monthly trifexis. He is wonderful with cats and other dogs, loves people, very playful and interactive, but also independent. Happy to hang out at home, nap, and entertain himself, but is happiest when you're playing with him. He would do best in a home with other animals/playmates. He is not destructive, but very busy and needs supervision. He has been living with 2 professional trainers for the last 6 weeks and has a great foundation in obedience and socialization, lovely house, door, and food manners, loves to play fetch, and ... (Read More)crates beautifully. He travels like a champ and is great in the car. He knows: sit, down, stand, wait, come, touch, watch me, go place, bring, hold, drop, give, wonderful leash manners, and he even rings a bell to go outside. Why are we rehoming him? He was selected as a Service Dog candidate, but after 5+ weeks of working with him, we have determined that service work is not his calling. He is much happier playing in the safety and comfort of familiar surroundings, unable to reliably focus on the job at hand and find his confidence out in the big wide stimulating world. He also has as few handling sensitivities. He was born to be a pet, - a ham and a clown - who lives to make you laugh. He DEFINITELY would like a rural/county home..helping someone do chores, exploring the back forty, swimming, fishing, poking things with a stick, or riding in a four wheeler. He is just not liking city living! He has had limited access to children, but has done well in small doses. He would be best in a home with children over 12 - he would quickly learn how to 'work' the little ones - too smart for his own good and very good at getting people to bend to his will. Does this guy sounds like a good fit for you? If so, contact us for an application! An adoption fee does apply.' Please contact Kait for updated pictures and adoption information. goodjobdogsllc@gmail.com **We are not a rescue organization. We specialize in training Service Dogs, but occasionally will adopt a dog from our program if we determine they are not suited to the job at hand. Adoption fees reflect the dog's vet care** (Less)

Basenji Dogs can make good pets in Kentucky if they match your IifestyIe. The Basenji is a playful, charming, energetic breed. They make excellent family pets but do best with older children. Basenjis can live in an apartment but need lots of daily exercise and long walks. A Basenji likes to chew and should be given toys and attention or it will get into trouble. Basenjis do not do well with cats and other pets beside dogs.
