Rescue Me ID: 15-04-07-00565Walker (male)

Basenji Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Walker followed me home while taking my dogs for a run. He's a good dog, house trained, sits for treats but is a little skiddish aound people so he needs to be socialized. He became very loving towards me within a day. While he's much more comfortable around people now he does need a home or foster that would be willing to socialize more. Due to being skiddish he will be put down at a shelter. I must find him a foster or home by April 8th. I'd keep him but my furry family is full at the moment. Please don't let this handsome guy be put down tomorrow. Contact me asap if you'd like to save Walker.

Animal ID: 262205Penny (female)

Basenji Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Talk about your lucky Penny! This little girl has endured so much in the past year, but she's come out shining! Penny was found by ACS several days after she had been hit by a car. Her hip and leg were both broken. They both healed on their own and, after some time and physical therapy, she walks, runs, and plays just fine. Then, after a few weeks in foster care, her foster mom started noticing blood and tumors being passed from her lady parts. She was diagnosed wih Canine Transmittable Veneral Tumors. Her awesome foster mom did a fundraiser for her, got her through chemotherapy, and now she is DISEASE FREE! Penny has also been ... (Read More)'diagnosed' with what we are calling Puppy PTSD. We are not sure why, but she is very apprehensive of new situations and is VERY scared of children. When she is afraid, she will run and hide- she has never tried to bite anyone. Once Penny knows you, she is the sweetest, most devoted companion. She loves to stick by your side, cuddle, and keep you company. Penny is 32 lbs, 3 years old, potty trained, and lives amicably with a free-roaming parrot so she'll likely be fine around cats. She does well with calm dogs. She is not terribly fond of children so a home with adults or teenagers would make her more comfortable. Penny has proven to us time and time again how resilient dogs can be. She has endured injury, scary situations, sickness, and aggressive treatments and remains a loving, devoted pet. She has been in foster care for a year and half (over 570 days!) While she recovered from everything and is now 100% ready for her forever home. If you would like to meet Penny please email acsrescue-foster@sanantonio.gov re: ID #A262205 (Less)

Basenji Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Basenji is a playful, charming, energetic breed. They make excellent family pets but do best with older children. Basenjis can live in an apartment but need lots of daily exercise and long walks. A Basenji likes to chew and should be given toys and attention or it will get into trouble. Basenjis do not do well with cats and other pets beside dogs.
